Island Fly is a premier fly-fishing outfitter grounded in the rhythms of North Carolina’s “Down East” coast. Each day moves with the same tides and weather that have guided fishermen here for generations.
From redfish tailing on grassy flats to bluefish and sharks cruising the troughs of the Core Banks, to false albacore blitzing off Cape Lookout, our days follow the water and the seasons.

Anchored on Core Sound, Island Fly operates in one of the most intact fisheries on the East Coast. These waters remain wild and abundant, with migrations sweeping past Cape Lookout and through the inshore waters of Core Sound.

Capt. Jason Moore, PhD, PA
Founder and Head Guide of Island Fly, Jason’s career blends three decades of clinical practice, research, and exploration. With experience in guiding, critical care, and wilderness medicine education, he has traveled across continents and oceans—pursuing both adventure and purpose.
Jason is the author of The Why Behind Wilderness Medicine, has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and continues to speak nationally on the art of guiding and the importance of wilderness safety. This combination of field experience, clinical skill, and academic expertise shapes how Island Fly operates: every trip is built on preparation, safety, and respect.
Ashley Dentler, DPT
A physical therapist and lifelong angler, Ashley brings a background in healthcare leadership, clinical care, and wellness that adds both structure and heart to Island Fly.
She has a natural ability to connect with people on and off the water and leads Island Fly’s Hey Ladies program—creating space for women to step confidently into fly fishing through clinics, local trips, and hosted travel abroad.
Her focus on teaching, safety, and shared experience shapes the heart of Island Fly—building skill, confidence, and community with every cast.
