Shark Fishing

There is nothing more impressive than feeling your line come tight with an apex predator on the other end! While fishing for sharks in offshore waters can often be complex, Island Fly’s backcountry shark program focuses on safety, connecting the angler and the shark for a quality experience rather than a numbers game.

Island Fly is a catch, tag, and release operation and all sharks will be released without removal from the water. We utilize traditional techniques such as chum and chunking to attract the sharks, and then spin or fly gear to start the dance!

We fish the tidal creeks and inlets bordering the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve where sharks are popular residents.

Island Fly is permitted under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Permit with Shark Endorsement and has partnered with the world’s largest cooperative fish tagging and research program, Gray Fishtag Research to foster conservation and education among anglers.
